Blairsville, the county seat of Union County, is located in the Nottely River valley in the North Georgia
mountains just east of where Georgia meets North Carolina and Tennessee. Blairsville and Union County are
strategically located within two hour’s drive of Atlanta, GA, Chattanooga, TN, and Greenville, SC. Our central
location gives us excellent access to Southeastern U.S. markets, international airports and deep water ports.
Blairsville is served by the "Appalachian Developmental Highway Corridor A (GA 515)", a 4-lane divided highway built to near-interstate highway specs. This highway serves as a high-speed freeway to Atlanta, 114 miles south-southwest. GA 515 connects to I-575 and into I-75.

From Blairsville via GA 515, it is 119 miles to Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL), which is the world's busiest in number of scheduled commercial airline flights. The Hartsfield Terminal complex handles more than 2,700 arrivals and departures daily and offers nonstop service to more than 150 domestic and 70 international destinations. ChattanoogaChattanooga Airport (CHA) is 95 miles west-northwest of Blairsville via U.S. 129/U.S. 64/I-75. Commercial airline service includes daily flights to Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Washington, DC, New York City, and weekly flights to Orlando and Tampa, FL. Airlines include: Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines.
The Blairsville Airport (KDZJ) is a regional airport with a paved and lighted runway – 5,000 x 100 feet – and one of the only public airports in the North Georgia mountains that can accommodate jets. It is three miles southeast of Blairsville at latitude 34.51.195 north and longitude 84.0.102 west. A new terminal opened in 2017. Services provided include T-hangars, aircraft tie down, 100LL fuel, jet-A fuel, auto rental, scheduled maintenance, rest rooms and telephone. (706) 745-4307
Specializing in the handling of container, reefer, breakbulk and RoRo cargoes, the Port of Savannah is home to the largest single-terminal container facility of its kind in North America, comprised of two modern, deepwater terminals and moving millions of tons of containerized cargo annually. The Port is 365 miles from Union County and easily accessible by rail or motor transport, especially with the recent opening of the Appalachian Regional Port, only 72 miles west of Blairsville.
The Appalachian Regional Port (ARP) gives Union County businesses a powerful gateway to global markets from North Georgia. This inland port, which opened in 2018, provides direct, 388-mile rail service via CSX to the Georgia Ports Authority’s Garden City Terminal at Savannah. The ARP offers import and export intermodal service and has a capacity of 50,000 containers per year with plans to double that capacity in 10 years.
Northeast Georgia Inland PortUnion County will be within about a one-hour drive from the Northeast Georgia Inland Port near Gainesville. This port will have the capacity to handle up to 150,000 containers per year when it is completed in 2021. This port will connect to Savannah’s Garden City Terminal via a Norfolk-Southern rail line
The Port of Charleston, 330 miles from Union County, is the eighth largest U.S. container port by cargo value – nearly $70 billion in goods move through the port annually. It, too, is easily accessible by rail or motor transport from Union County.
